Jack Lyle Barnes Jr, 78 of Halifax, Nova Scotia, passed away quietly, with his wife Pamela of 52 years, at his side on August 2,2023, in Louisbourg, Cape Breton, while travelling with his brother David and sister-in-law Cathy. Jack was born in Franklin, Pa., USA, the first son to the late Jack and Lois Barnes. Jack lived life with passion. His love of the sea provided him years of joy sailing both in Canada and the US. He was a senior member of Armdale Yacht Club for many years where he served on the Board and was House Manager and Volunteer of the year in 2011, a member of Dartmouth Yacht Club and LaHave River Yacht Club. His boat Just Chillin was his pride and joy. His love of animals took him on a path from By-Laws Officer for the City of Dartmouth to more than 25 years of Breeding and showing his beloved Afghan Hounds resulting in numerous awards and Two Best in Show wins. Jack's greatest love for sports was his Miami Dolphins Football team. After attending their first ever game in the Miami Orange Bowl in 1966, he was a diehard Dolphin for life. Jack also spent his adult life as a strong supporter of Cystic Fibrosis, both in Canada and the US, working behind the scenes for fund raising events, being a role model for young male CF patients teaching them sailing, taking them to sporting events and always there to listen to the fears and joys of growing boys, and girls. Jack excelled as an artist and designer. In later years he worked on many carpentry projects but he was outstanding in interior design. His art work graces the walls of family and friends from Florida to Utah, Virginia to Halifax. Jack was a menswear retail specialist, working for major Department stores in the US and Canada. He retired from Moore's Menswear several years ago. Jack is survived by his Wife, Pamela (nee Wolfenden) of 52 years. Without children, his focus was always on his many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and his latest Grand niece. He always wanted to know every detail from first tooth and first step to graduations and weddings. He is survived by Brother, David Barnes (Cathy) of Utah, Sisters, Deborah Ryan of Florida and Cindi Bosque (Jose) of Florida. He was predeceased by In-Laws, Cecil and Thelma Wolfenden and Brothers-in law Robert and Donald Wolfenden. Family Flowers only/ In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Souls Harbour P.O.
