Nobile Joseph Sarto
July 1928-July 2023
Glace Bay, NS
It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our uncle Nobile Sarto in the Victoria Haven Nursing Home. Nobile lived a happy and comfortable life there for the past twenty months until Friday, July 28, 2023.
Born in Glace Bay to Antonio and Anna (Scarinzi) Sarto. His parents immigrated to Cape Breton from Italy in the early 1900’s and he was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Nobile was predeceased by his parents and siblings, Margaret, Ester, Dino, Bruna (Jerome) and Condo (Betty).
Although never married, Nobile was also predeceased by two long time loves’, Dorothy Egan, and Josephine Lewis.
Our uncle is survived by nephews: Sarto (Marisa), children, Mara and Milena, Tony (Allison), Francis (Roberta), children Matthew (Myrrhissa) and Jessica (Tyler); nieces Sandra and Anna Marie (son, Anthony).
At ninety-five, most who grew up with and knew him, have since passed but would have known him to love to do a bit of fishing and hunting. Nobile was also a past member of The Dominion Italian Hall and The Sydney Curling Club. At a younger age he loved his Sundays at his bungalow in Mira. Anyone younger would know Nobile in his favorite place, behind the counter of the family store, Sarto’s Grocery. A landmark in the community of Bridgeport for 90 years. For about 80 of those years, he worked and later owned the business. In 2016 it was decided that it was time to retire and enjoy the rest of his life.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS. 902-849-4199. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, from 3-6 p.m. and Thursday, August 3, 2023, from 1-2 p.m. and Funeral Service to follow in Chapel with Fr. Norman MacPhee presiding. Interment to follow in Cavalry Cemetery.
Family flowers only. For those who wish to offer a donation, it only seems fitting that it would be to a Food Bank in your community.
Over the last few years, Nobile had a number of hospital stays, to all who gave care and kindness, our thanks. Our thanks to Dr. M. Gallivan, for his care over the years as Nobiles’ family physician; and to the staff of Victoria Haven that made their home his home, we thank you.
The family of Nobile Sarto.
