Karen Anne Campbell nee Murphy 67
In the early morning hours of June 28, 2023, my most cherished mother went quietly to be with her Lord and Saviour in heaven. We all know she is in a beautiful place singing for all of heaven to hear. Karen was born on July 7, 1955 at New Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, Ontario. With her parents and younger sister, they moved to Dunvegan in 1959.
She graduated from Inverness Consolidated School in 1972. She then attended St Francis Xavier University attaining a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Education. She continued her learning at St Mary’s University attaining her Master’s in Education.
Karen was a dedicated worker for Capital Health at the VG Bethune building, teaching medical staff I.T. programs. The last 15 years she enjoyed her retirement.
She spent many summers at her and Lorne’s camper at Lake Ainslie. A highlight of her life was taking her two grandchildren along camping for sometimes weeks at a time. Drew and Lily will forever remember those times.
Her love of all things celtic is evidenced in her love of the bagpipes. Karen was a member of the Bonnie Brae Pipes and Drums and was chosen to play in the Rose Bowl Parade in 1976. Karen had the most angelic voice and was always eager to share her talents which included singing, playing guitar, piano and the bagpipes. She was choir director with her parish for 30+ years.
Karen leaves behind to mourn her husband of 47 years Lorne Hugh; her one and only child Megann Hughena (Andrew Conrad) and her two beloved grandchildren Drew Lorne and Lily Diane Karen - “Nana’s sugarplums”.
She was predeceased by her mother Margaret Irene Murphy in 1994. Also left to mourn Karen’s passing from this world are her father Michael Murphy, sisters Marie (Wayne), Michele, Betty (Mose) and Natalie (Robert) and brother Lloyd (Pamela); as well as many nieces and nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews who she loved so dearly.
Arrangements have been entrusted to T. J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 71 McQuade Lake Crescent, Halifax (902) 835-4212, where visitation will be held on July 12, 2023, from 2pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm followed by a Funeral Service on July 13, 2023, at 11:00am in St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Parish, 18 Scholars Rd, Upper Tantallon, NS B3Z 0N2, followed by Burial and then Reception.
May songs of the angels welcome you and guide you along your way. May the smiles of the martyrs greet your own as darkness turns into day. Every fear will be undone and death will be no more. As songs of the angels bring you home before the face of God.
