I met Derick and his wife, Darlene in 2022 at Sunrise park interfaith Cemetery. Derick sharing with me his situation I could not get over his inspiration and his outlook on life and the love and caring for his family and everyone else including myself. Derek must’ve left an impression on everyone that he met because for me he did just that. My sincere condolence goes out to the family at the loss of such a wonderful person. But because of his personality his life will continue living in others, because others will always remember him.

Darlene and family, we are so sorry to hear that Derek has passed. He was a wonderful friend and neighbour. We loved when he stopped by on his wheeler for a chat or to lend a helpful hand. He’s a wonderful man who is greatly missed in the East Dalhousie community. The entire family is in our prayers.

My sincere condolences to Darlene & their family. Derek was my next door neighbor for several years and a good guy to laugh & carry on with. One very thoughtful gesture of Derek's that I will always appreciate, was that he modified my stove to make it much easier for me to use.

Jan and I send our deepest condolences to Darlene and family at this difficult time. Derek was such a huge part of our Lake Torment community...a friend and neighbour for 30 years. I so enjoyed him dropping in for a visit as he was rolling down Lakeside Drive on his wheeler. Always involved...always willing to lend a hand and always smiling and sharing a laugh.

I wish to extend our deepest condolences to Darlene, Dawn and Darren in Derek's passing. I had the opportunity in speaking with Derek and Darlene on the 9th March. I will always cherish our wonderful conversation and just how special and corages Derek was. I remember as a child growing up in Glace Bay how my cousin Derek was so dear and kind.
