Please share a memory of Betty to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Anne Elizabeth (Betty) MacNeil 1930-2023 It is with deep sadness, but with fond memories we announce the passing of our Mom, Betty MacNeil on Sunday, Feb. 19, 2023, at the C.B. Regional Hospital with her children by her side. Mom was the daughter of Joe and Elizabeth (Hall) MacDonald. In her younger years, she was a business co-owner of Tartan Lunch Restaurant in Glace Bay. Later, she was employed at Marco Hearing Health Centre with Odelia MacDonald, who referred to Mom as “family”. As an avid bowler, she attended many competitions and events earning her top awards. Mom was very proud to give back and did so by coaching many young people this sport. Our beautiful Mom was a member of the RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults), CWL (17 years) and served as a reader in St. Ann’s Church as well as a Choir Member. Mom is survived by her sons: Donald Hunt, (Ontario) John MacNeil (Glace Bay), Blair (Gwen) MacNeil (Glace Bay) Richard (Lorena) MacNeil (New Hampshire) and daughter Brenda Timmons (Marion Bridge). She is also survived by her brother John (Debbie) MacDonald of Sydney. Together with many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Besides her parents, she is pre-deceased by her former husband John (Jessie) MacNeil, her brothers, Donnie (Malida) George (Rodina) and her sister Alice (Bobby) Barry. Mom felt truly blessed to have the Bedecki Family of Glace Bay in her life. Their love and support throughout the years truly meant the world to her. Cremation has taken place and arrangements have been entrusted to the care and compassion of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS. 902.849.4199. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, February 24, 2023, at 10 a.m. in St. Anne’s Parish, Main St., Glace Bay, with Fr. Duaine Devereaux presiding. Reception to follow. The family would like to express our endless gratitude to Jeannie Sheppard, Jillian Hines and Brenda Poirier for their dedication and love while looking after our mother for the past several years. They went above and beyond with trips to the beach, drives in the country, day programs and other activities which were a source of much happiness for her.
