Dear Anne and Chris
My sincere condolences on George's passing. He and Todd were a big part of my childhood and amongst my fondest memories of Drew St. Over the years, he was always one for a quick chat in the driveway whenever I was home. He will be missed by many of us but we are all better for having had him our lives.
With love,
Craig MacMullin

So sorry to read of George’s passing. I worked with George at JBCroak for many years. He was a great guy. We shared many laughs and even a few tears over the years. Dear Aunt Anne, Chris & Family. Uncle George has passed but his incredible journey filled with love, great experiences & memories will remain with those who were fortunate enough to meet him. For me travelling to Cape Breton to visit Family as a child was always a highlight of summer vacation. I still remember our visits to the old homestead and then onto Drew Street where many stories, lots of laughter and of course the great times I had with Todd in the basement playing ball hockey. Later in life it was always a pleasure when Uncle George and Aunt Anne ventured their way to New Brunswick for a visit or to attend a family function, weddings come to mind. Uncle George was certainly a gentleman, a family man and was well respected. Uncle George loved to talk the game of golf never failing to remind me of the “Aces” he carded and the pure enjoyment he had playing with his buddies. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this most difficult time.

Sincere condolences to Anne and Family. We remember George as a gentleman in all descriptions of term. He didn’t have a lot to say but was always pleasant and friendly, and he gave valuable volunteer service to his community. We appreciated his competence and fairness as a hockey referee. He was a man of strict attention to order and detail. Each time I met him at Superstore I commended him on having the neatest cartload…he just smiled. He will be missed at NSTU Retired Teachers’ dinner meetings.
Fraser and Jane MacGregor.

I am so sorry to hear about the passing of George. I had the privilege of being taught by George at John Bernard Croak school after St. John's had closed. It was a difficult year with the merger and a higher workload for staff and teachers due to the increase in the number of students. Even though times were difficult, George's personal approach to teaching and caring for students made him a model. He was an inspiration to me and to many that he taught. In his later years, I often heard (usually at the golf course) of the volunteering that he did and ongoing support for those in need. The Glace Bay community will certainly mourn his loss but also be forever grateful for his contributions and imprint he had on developing and instilling values on youth and supporting the most vulnerable.

I’m so sorry to hear this. I was a student of Mr.Pyke’s at New Aberdeen School.
Just moved back after 54 years in Winnipeg and heard he was on the kettles. missed him as I was on Ketltles, at Sobey’s next door and didn’t realize , at that time. Would like to have told him the respect I had for him. I really don’t remember if he was a good teacher, as I was not a great student but I do know he was a good person. So very sorry.

Our heartfelt condolences to the family of the late George Pyke. We met George through his son, our dearest friend, whom we consider a brother, Chris Pyke (Otis Dawgwood).
We are so thankful for the times we were able to share joyous occasions with George and Anne and Chris, especially on Chris’s wedding day. The boat ride through houseboat bay was a magical day. George had a heart of gold, and a twinkle in his eye whenever he smiled. The apple does not fall far.
Much love to Chris and Anne and all their immediate and extended family and friends that will be feeling this great loss.
Sincerely,
Becky (Lily-Mae Dawgwood), Phil and Jake.
