Obituary of Joey Kennedy

Engineering Officer Cadet Joseph Fabian David Kennedy, 22 Glace Bay, NS It is with shattered hearts that we the family announce the sudden passing of our loving son, brother and friend, Joey Kennedy in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney on Wednesday, January 4, 2023. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of Ambrose and April (MacNeil) Kennedy. Joey was the perfect son; he graduated from Glace Bay High School as a four-year Honour Student in the O2 Program and was also a member of the High School Band. He received a scholarship from the Canadian Coast Guard College, from where he would have received his Canadian Coast Guard College Diploma, a Transport Canada Fourth Class Marine Engineer Certificate of Competency, and a Bachelor of Technology in Nautical Science from Cape Breton University in June of 2023. Joey's parents will now be participating in the graduation ceremonies with his classmates in his honour. Joey also appreciated riding sport bikes, golfing, fishing, camping, playing rugby, and he was part of the Membertou Boxing Club. Joey volunteered in his community at the Glace Bay Food Bank and was always happy to assist the aging when in their time of need; Joey was also a member of the Air Cadets; and a Member of The Canadian Armed Forces, as an Engineer with 36CER. Joey is survived by his loving parents, Ambrose, and April; siblings, Eddie, Margy, and Shealyn; paternal grandmother, Joann Pratico; uncles Robert and David MacNeil; as well as numerous great friends, school mates and his classmates from the Canadian Coast Guard College. Family flowers only. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 11, 2023, from 11 to 2 p.m. with a service to follow at 2 p.m. with Fr. Bill Burke presiding, all taking place in T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS (902-849-4199).
