Obituary of Joanna "Jo" Nicole McIsaac

Please share a memory of Joanna "Jo" to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Joanna Nicole McIsaac, 34 Glace Bay, NS On July 21st, heaven gained an angel. It is with profound sorrow and deep love that we mourn the passing of Joanna Nicole McIsaac, 34 who left this Earth suddenly while at her home in Glace Bay. Joanna was known for her kind heart and eager compassion toward helping others. She had special friends, but her very best friend was her brother, Ian whom she called Buddy. Growing up, sports were a large part of Joanna’s life. She enjoyed playing soccer, basketball, and baseball, but her passion was hockey. Playing a sport new to females, Jo faced adversity. She never let it affect her love for playing the game. With determination, she continued to play throughout high school and into adulthood on all women's teams. For years, Jo had season seats with the Cape Breton Eagles, and she was elated to meet Marc-Andre Fleury. Her favourite hockey team was the Montreal Canadiens. A highlight in her life was seeing her beloved Habs playing on home ice in Montreal and getting a picture with her favorite hockey player, Alexander Ovechkin. Joanna was a member of the Challenge Movement; she attended numerous weekend events where she met new friends. As a member of St. John’s Parish, Joanna assisted at mass as an altar server. One of Joanna's proud achievements was her completion of the French Extended Core Program from grades 7-12. For several summers, Joanna was an enthusiastic member of the Festival on The Bay Drama Group. Joanna obtained her Teacher Assistant certification from Marconi Campus. She attended CBU earning her Bachelor of Arts Community Studies Degree. In 2020 Joanna graduated top of her class at CBBC having not missed a single day of classes. For the last two years Joanna worked at the Glace Bay Lawton’s Pharmacy and formed meaningful connections with her coworkers. She was a truly dedicated worker who loved her career as a pharmacy assistant. Joanna’s pride and joy was her fur baby, Nevaeh. Her favourite hobbies included taking Nevaeh to the dog park to play, shopping at pet stores for supplies and toys, and visiting with friends. She loved to play games, color, do puzzles, and watch tv shows and movies with her family. Jo’s favourite music was country rock with ‘Canadian Girls’ being her theme song. Joanna always enjoyed traveling as she visited most of Canada, New York, Las Vegas, and Florida with her family. She often spoke about her memorable trip to Europe with the Glace Bay High School Travel Group. Joanna will be forever missed by Mother Pauline, brother Ian, sister-in-law Devon, and her birth sister Cheryl (Brandon). She will be fondly remembered by her two nieces Scottie and Blossom as ‘Auntie Joey.’ She will be dearly missed by her Godmother Donna (Shelly) and Godfather Gerry (Louise). Joanna will be lovingly missed by all her aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. We all will miss you beyond measure, but we know you are reuniting in Heaven with your father, John and grandparents Ella and Emile Landru. A visitation for family and friends will be held at Tracey’s Funeral Home 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, N.S.(902-849-4199) on Monday, August 1, 2022, from 12-2 pm followed by a memorial service with Father Duane Deveraux. Burial will take place at St. Anne’s Cemetery with a reception to follow. The family asks that donations be made to the SPCA to honour Jo’s deep love for all animals. Family flowers only please. It is the request of the family that the public please wear a mask during visitation and service. Thank you. “The loss is immeasurable, but so are the memories left behind” Special thank you to Dr. Gordon Spencer for his compassionate care, as well as the EMT’s with their quick response in giving their best efforts.
