To Roger's family and friends,
I'm so sorry for your loss. I didn't know Roger well. I met him in 1982 while he was in the RCMP. I was involved with a young man who was involved in activities that I wasn't aware of. Roger was quick to realize this and assist me in aiding the RCMP as well as protecting me from repercussions. That's a lot of years ago but I have never forgotten his kindness and protection. May you find comfort in that and may Roger rest in peace

Dear Brenda and Family:
I am so saddened to learn of Roger's passing. I am a troop-mate from the infamous RCMP Troop 13. In 1978 Roger and I were sworn in together in Ottawa and we drove out to Regina in separate vehicles. He had this lovely blue van all finished inside as I remember it and he planned to sleep in it enroute to Depot. One night it was so cold he asked to stay in my motel room but we agreed on one condition, not in the same bed! When we graduated we both were posted to Nova Scotia.
It was so great to see you both at the Troop reunion in Halifax and to have lunch together at the restaurant in Peggy's Cove. I called Roger out of the blue a couple of weeks ago. I had no idea of his illness nor did he mention his health. He was such a kind person and that infectious laugh, well I will never forget it. Roger I will truly miss you and hope to reconnect somewhere, somehow, someday. My warmest regards to the family.
Your pal, Len Meilleur Troop 13. Your troopmates are honoured to have known you. Love from Wendy (my wife) as well.

I have too many great memories of Rog everything from being on the god bridge in Curaçao , the private little lagoon we found, years of over the fence discussions , Atv rides, to our Friday gatherings at the Bonnie Prince. My uncle Roger was always a young uncle to me. He insisted I call him Roger, not uncle Roger, because uncle "made him sound old." I'd call him uncle Roger anyways, because he'd also tell me not to take grown ups so seriously. We'd visit at least once a year in the summer, but mostly the man I recognized were through photographs that my Dad would share of a much younger man. Today, I look older than he does in this photo, and in fact this was probably taken before my time, but forever in my heart this is my uncle Roger.

To Brenda and family my sincere condolence. So sorry to hear of his
passing. As my former troop mate we shared many a laugh in the 6 months we were in Depot. The Duck as he was called by our drill corporal was often picked on . He sounded like the Beatles and had that slight defiance of authority that rallied us around him! It was so nice Brenda when you and Rog joined many of our troop mates for our reunion in Halifax several years ago! Great fun! RIp our brother!

My condolences to Roger's wife, family, and friends. I was saddened to hear of his passing this morning and wished I had kept in closer touch with him.
In 1980, I was a 19 year old applicant to the RCMP. Roger was a new RCMP member working out of the Glace Bay office. Roger took me under his wing and I spent many nights with him working as a "ride-a-long" prior to going to RCMP training in Regina.
I looked forward to the calls from Roger, inviting me to go out on shift with him, and learned a lot about policing, and how to interact with people. I have many pleasant memories from working with Roger and my experience with him helped me through what was a 40 year career with the RCMP.
I last saw Roger about 10 years ago when I stopped at the Bonnie Prince one morning during a trip back to Cape Breton.
All the best to Roger's family and friends - he will be missed.

MY EARLIEST MEMORY OF ROGER
Every year on Roger’s birthday I would send him greetings. I would always start “it was a dark and stormy night …” as it was in Liverpool, England on Tuesday January 12 1954 when he was born. I am his older brother (7.5 years older). I was walking home from Primary School at around 4 o’clock. Given Liverpool’s latitude and the fact that it was the dead of winter the days were short and the nights long. That day there was lots of rain and high winds, it was virtually nighttime when I arrived home. I remember walking in the front door and there was a bicycle in the hallway with a large basket on the front. It was, of course, the midwife’s bike. The midwife poked her head around the corner when she heard me open the door and I remember her round cheerful face with red cheeks. She told me that she had brought my new baby brother in the large basket on the bike (I wasn’t that dumb even at 7 years old but I let it pass). Then my Dad took me by the hand into the bedroom where Mum lay in bed with my little brother in her arms. Mum looked tired but none the worse for wear. Roger was a cute baby and I loved him the moment I saw him and loved him even more as the years passed by. I will miss him greatly.

I lovingly called Roger my Uncle though we are 2nd cousins (Marsden rule). As children I remember him coming to Aylmer and at a few family events and him being so funny and so very happy! Roger's laugh was infectious and endearing. We're so grateful to have been able to bring our family out to Glace Bay, NS and spend time with Roger and Brenda at their beautiful home in 2016. It was an adventure and place my children still talk about ( That time they saw an Eagle swoop down from accross the pond from way up high to be tossed a chicken breast by Brenda AND saw Foxie the fox come out for feeding time). We enjoyed a lovely stay and got a beautiful tour and meal at the Bonnie Prince. Roger chuckled after telling us some incredible stories and told me I didn't need to add the "Uncle" to his name anymore. It still doesn't sound right, though still! We had a delicious family BBQ and laughs we'll not soon forget. Love you and will miss you Uncle Rog ♡ Rest in Peace ♡ Our thoughts are with the whole family
