James “Duffy” Wiseman,
Glace Bay
With broken hearts, we, the family of James “Duffy” Wiseman, 64 years young, regret to announce the sudden passing of our grandfather, father, partner, brother, uncle, cousin, and dear friend, at home on Friday, April 8, 2022.
Born and raised in Bridgeport, Duffy was the son of the late Euphemia “Phemie” (Davidson) and Francis “Duffy” Wiseman.
Duffy resided in the Glace Bay Area for most of his adult life and was a member of the Immaculate Conception Parish, Bridgeport.
In his earlier years, he was very highly respected as a correctional officer at the Edmonton Remand Centre in Edmonton, Alberta. He was exceptional at interacting with the inmates and fellow officers. Thats also where his only son, whom he idolized, Ross, was born. Nothing was more important to Duffy then family and he longed for him to be raised “home.”
He returned to Cape Breton in 1989 and began working at The Main Event & Jiggers Lounge. He was the kindest man with the best sense of humour you could come by. He loved to joke around and always had a witty remark ready to keep the laughs going. He met many lifelong friends from working on the other side of the bar whom he left a lasting impression with. Duffy enjoyed Friday night Bomber’s hockey at Dominion Rink for many years with the guys where the friendly heckling continued, and stories were shared. He also had a few great trips down south, escaping the winter with the “Jiggers Crew” and a memorable trip to Las Vegas with Michele, Robert and Vangie.
After bartending for over 20 years, he was employed with MMR in Fort McMurray in the tool crib and traveled back and forth for a few years. Meeting old friends and new along his travels, he enjoyed the experience. Duffy finished his career being employed at Meco Construction where he put his hand to his passion, painting. He was a beautiful painter and always took on odd jobs doing such over the years.
He will be sadly missed by his lifelong partner Michele Stewart; his only son and best friend Ross and daughter-in-law Courtney (Rideout); his pride and joy, five month old grandson, Tanner James; sisters, Sharon (William) McDonald, Patricia (David) Feaver, both of Glace Bay, Doreen MacDonald (Sander), Sydney Mines; brother, Robert (Vangie), Alberta; sister-in-law Lorraine Davidson; mother in law Shirley Stewart; both of Glace Bay; brother in law Kevin Stewart (Alberta). Duffy will also be missed dearly by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless close friends. He was loved by all who knew him.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brother, Francis, and father in-law-Gordon “Turk” Stewart.
Cremation has been entrusted to T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve Street., Glace Bay. 902-849-4199. Visitation for Duffy will take place Wednesday, April 13, 2022, at 3 p.m. with a Celebration of Life to follow at 4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the local food bank or a charity of one’s choice.

God saw you getting tired,
And a cure was not to be,
So, he put his arms around you,
And whispered, “Come to me.”
A Golden heart stopped beating,
Hard working hands at rest.
God broke our heart to prove to us,
He only takes the best.
