Robert (Bobby) Wayne Morrison, 83
Glace Bay
It is with great sadness that we the family wish to announce the sudden passing of Robert (Bobby) Wayne Morrison of 26 Chappel Drive, Glace Bay on Friday October 29th, 2021. Born December 18th, 1937, in Glace Bay, Bobby was one of four children of the late Celina and Angus Morrison.
Bobby, as he was well known, is survived by his wife of 59 years Tillie, sons Craig, Glace Bay, Derek, Halifax, and daughter Dawn Celene (Steve) Glace Bay as well as grandsons Devon (Caitlin, London, Ont.) and Dhane Morrison of Glace Bay. His brothers, Blair (Gloria), Glace Bay, Jim (Valerie) Dartmouth, and many nieces and nephews. Bobby was predeceased by his sister Patsy and husband George Reid of Halifax.
Bobby was known for always wearing a bright smile and was befriended by many neighbours, Knights of Columbus members, customers along with many lifelong friends especially Ray MacNeil (Toronto), a lifelong friend from his childhood days. For those who knew Bobby you could always have a chat with him about sports of all types of especially hockey, golf, and baseball which he spent countless hours sitting in front of the television downstairs in the family rec room, one of his favorite hangouts. Bobby spent many a day taking his two grandsons to their hockey practices and games at the Bay Plex and always cheered them on, at the same time quick to point out “what could be better.”
Over his life Bobby was a local entrepreneur serving as the proprietor of the local Pit Head tavern where he treated all his patrons as one big family for years and always treated his staff with the upmost respect. For many years you could catch Bobby at Kenmount Ford dealership with the late Allan Joseph (his good friend and colleague) and where Bobby for many years was celebrated as the top salesperson.
Over his lifetime Bobby was a highly active athlete playing hockey with St Francis Xavier University and for many seasons with the Glace Bay Miners. He was also an active golfer, playing at Lingan and later Seaview Golf and Country club for many decades where he always would refer to the only “hole in one” he had gotten in hundreds of rounds. Bobby was also an active volunteer in his community coaching a variety of teams of Glace Bay Minor hockey for several years. He was also a continually active member of St Anne’s Parish and the Knights of Columbus where he served at many capacities along with serving as the Grand Knight.
Our family would also like to recognize the following care workers for their above and beyond care for Bobby during his time of health needs. Dr. Carol Boutilier, Kevin 3A, Lee-Ann, Marsha, and Katlin of the emergency department of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Bhreagh, Darlene, Kristen Chappelle and Erica of Glace Bay General. Special thanks to Randy (Dialysis Unit) and the EHS paramedic staff.
