Obituary of Robert Nightingale
Robert “Bob” Nightingale, 75, passed away suddenly in the Veterans Memorial Unit, Halifax on Thursday May 28th. He was the son of the late Kit and Veronica Nightingale, Glace Bay. He is survived by sons Rob (Jane) Halifax, Glenn (Erin) Bedford, and a daughter, Denise Bauckman (Erik) Bedford, grandchildren Megan, Matthew, Allie, Finn, Kit and Sylvia and great grandchildren Jaden and Kyra. Bob is also survived by seven brothers, Angus, Judique, Jim (Shelley), Beausejour, MN, Karl (Pat) River Bourgeois, Daniel (Carol) Grand Grieve, John (Sherry) Red Deer, AB, Ray, Sydney, Topper (Corinne) Glace Bay, and three sisters Claire Chipman, Dominion, Florence MacNeil, Sydney and Trish (Jim) Cumminger, Victoria BC. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his brothers Bill and David “Beaver”. Born and raised in Glace Bay, Bob was a graduate of St. FX and wore his X ring with pride. Always interested in learning something new, he completed courses and credentials at several other institutions including U of MN and Simon Fraser. He was lover of the outdoors; hunting, fishing and telling stories were his favorite past times. Bob followed a varied career path, from the military to teaching school, working for Manpower, doing property assessments, income taxes and a range of entrepreneurial undertakings in hopes of making his fortune. Bob always had a story and a joke and would tell them to whoever was handy. Never one to avoid work, he was relentless in his undertakings, always willing to lend a hand or take an old car off your hands, or to join you in any activity that involved the outdoors. The family would like to thank the staff at both the NS Rehab and Camp Hill VMB, 6 West, for bringing joy and purpose to the last year of his life. He eagerly jumped at the chance to try everything from painting to sing-a-longs and he never turned down a chance for an outing, but he was most in his glory telling stories at open mic nights or telling jokes in the Cozy Corner. Cremation entrusted to TJ Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists. Due to the current situation, a Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.
