Glace Bay, N.S.
It is with heavy hearts that we, the family of Richard Gardner Munroe, 57, of Glace Bay, NS, announce his passing on January 2, 2025, at Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney, NS.
Richard was born in York, Ontario to James and Madeline Munroe (Watkins) on November 12, 1967. He is a graduate of NSCC Sheet Metal Fabrication program. He worked for many years in the construction industry and as a labourer in the oilsands of Alberta.
Richard enjoyed watching hockey; he was an avid Boston Bruins fan. In days prior to his passing, he was able to take in a couple of Cape Breton Eagles games. Richard also enjoyed many other activities such as cooking, listening to music, spending time with his grandchildren and going for drives with his friends to get a coffee or watch the sun rise. In his younger years, he enjoyed fixing up old cars.
Richard is survived by his children; Michael, Nichole, and Robert, his brother Mark (Cindy), sister Heather (William), grandchildren Rylan and Lucas, and several nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by both parents.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at T.J. Tracey Funeral Home, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS, 902-849-4199, on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at 1 pm, and a Celebration of Life to follow at 2 p.m. Burial to follow, weather permitting.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to both the Palliative Care Unit Staff of the CBRH and to his friend Andrea for their kindness, care and compassion given to Richard in his final days.
