We are saddened to advise of the death of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Adeline (‘Lena”) Risk, who peacefully passed away on December 14, 2024, at the venerable age of 99 years.

Lena was the daughter of Carlo and Elvira Del Barba, who emigrated to Canada from Italy in the early 1900’s. Lena was born and raised in New Waterford, NS, and later relocated to Sydney, NS to raise her family with her husband, the late Richard Nicholas Risk.

Lena is survived by her sons, Richard (Claudia), Robert (Danette) and David (Sharon), her grandchildren Lynn Hayes (Pat), Stephanie Stevens (Darrell) and Richard James Risk, as well her great-grandchildren Maya Hayes and the triplets, Austin, Sophia and Georgia Stevens. She was predeceased by her son, John (Lee) and her grandson, David Richard Risk. She is survived by John and Lee’s extended family, with a special mention to her step-granddaughter Sherry Wysocki in Hamilton, ON.

We would like to extend a sincere thank you to the nurses and staff of R. C. MacGillivray Guest Home, who cared for Lena with the utmost professionalism and respect during her final few years.

Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 6 Churchill Drive, Sydney, NS, 902-539-7175. Visitation will take place on Friday, December 20, 11– 1 pm at the funeral home followed by a funeral service in the Chapel at 1 pm, Fr. Bill Burke officiating. Interment at a later date at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
