Obituary of Barbara Mae Jones
Please share a memory of Barbara to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving mother, Barbara Mae (Scallion) Jones on November 4th at the age of 86.
Barb was born on January 13th, 1938, in Halifax to Thomas and Gertrude Scallion (Webber).
Barb married Robert (Bob) in 1960 and during their 50 years of marriage they went on to raise their three children, Peter (Angela), David, and Wendy.
Barb was a stay-at-home Mom, long-time resident of Timberlea, and very active in the community. She was a member of St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, one of the original members of the Parkdale Bridge Club (1966) and played regularly for 50 years. She also bowled weekly with neighborhood moms, was a member of the PTA, volunteered at school events, and was a group committee member for the local Scout troop.
As her children got older, she worked in administration for Gourock Wire Rope and then the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the VG Hospital. Upon retirement, Barb and Bob moved to their new home on the water in Seabright. Together they enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren, gardening, travelling, square dancing, and visiting family. She also enjoyed line dancing, the Red Hat Society, and was involved with the Seabright Legion. What she loved most of all was celebrating special occasions with her family.
Barb will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, easy-going personality, hardy laugh, and delicious desserts.
Besides her children, she is survived by her treasured grandchildren, Nicole, Owen, Bryson, Brennan, and Samuel, and will be greatly missed by her siblings, Gerald (Lena), Paul (Janet), David (Gloria), and Nancy (Bobby).
Barb was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Gertrude, husband Bob, brother Teddy (Kathy), and sister Eva (Eric).
In honour of her wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
