Obituary of Judith Ann MacQueen

Please share a memory of Judith to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Judith ‘Judy’ MacQueen, 80, on November 13th, 2024, on the Palliative Care Unit at the VG Hospital in Halifax, surrounded by family. Judy was born in Sydney, NS, but resided in Bedford at the time of her passing. Cape Breton Island always held a special place in her heart, and she liked to visit often. She was the daughter of the late William ‘Bill’ and Vivian (Courage) Ott, formerly of Howe Street, Sydney. Judy was a teacher for 34 years, with approximately half of those years teaching in the public school system, and the latter half teaching blind and visually impaired students as an itinerant teacher with the Atlantic Provinces Special Education Authority (APSEA) until the time of her retirement. Judy is survived by her daughters, Margery (Brian) Ancliffe, Bedford, and Nadine Blinkhorn (Todd Macrae), Sydney; sister, Debbie (Ronald) McPhee, Sydney; and nephews Jeff (Sarah) McPhee, Cole Harbour, and Mike (Nadine) McPhee, Waterloo, ON, and their families. She is also survived by the light of her life, her granddaughter, Emma Ancliffe. Affectionately known as ‘Mammy’ to Emma, their bond through the years was a blessing to witness. Besides her parents, Judy was predeceased by her husband, Robert ‘Bruce’ MacQueen of Sydney. The family would like to thank all those involved in Mom’s care. A special thank you to Dr. Adrienne Watson, family physician; Dr. James Bentley, oncologist; the Palliative Care team, especially Cindy Bell, RN, and the 7A staff; and the EHS paramedics whose care and advocacy made a tremendous difference in the trajectory of Mom’s last days. There will be no service or visitation per her final wishes. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, Halifax; 902-835-4212.
