Colette Arlene Poirier, 58
Glace Bay, N.S.
It is with deep heartache, that we the family of Colette Arlene Poirier, 58, of Glace Bay, announce her passing in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, with her family at her side on Monday, October 28, 2024.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Stewart and Dolores (Mackenzie) Riggs.
Colette was a devoted Nurse and worked at several hospitals such as Glace Bay General, St. Joseph Hospital, and 3A in the Cape Breton Regional. Colette’s dedication to her profession and her compassionate care touched many lives. She played basketball at St. Michael’s High School and earned a full scholarship to play basketball for UCCB; she also represented Nova Scotia and played on the all-conference team.
Colette had a deep love for Celtic Music and a passion for Step-Dancing, which she shared with her daughter, she developed this passion during her time spent with family in Benacadie Pond. Colette cherished the time spent snowmobiling with her parents, she enjoyed riding motorcycles with her husband Donald and was an active member of the ATV Community with their Side-By-Side.
Colette’s love for animals was evident in her adoration for their cats, Sophie and Bella, and their dog Rosin. These beloved pets brought her immense joy and companionship.
Colette is survived by her husband Donald Jerome Poirier of 17 years; daughter Krystal Burte, Newfoundland; two stepsons: Tyler (Emilie) Poirier and Mitchell (Jessica) Poirier, Alberta; step-grandson Luca, Alberta.
Colette was predeceased by both her mom and dad Dolores and Stewart Riggs.
Visitation for Colette will be held on Friday, November 1, 2024, from 2-4 p.m., in T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, N.S. 902-849-4199.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the SPCA in Colette’s memory.
