Hector Joseph MacNeil, 81
Reserve Mines, N.S.
It is with deep heartache, that we the family of Hector Joseph MacNeil, 81, of Reserve Mines, announce his passing at home, on Sunday, September 1, 2024. Born in Glace Bay, Hector was the son of the late Murdock and Cecilia MacNeil.
Hector was an electrician by trade and worked for Devco in the #26 and Phalen Collieries for most of his life. After the mines, he worked at Savage Inc., in Port Hawkesbury until his retirement at the age of 74.
His dedication to his work was outstanding, he was always there to help and share his wisdom. Hector mentored many people over the years and whenever there was trouble you could always count on him to be there to help.
Dad loved hunting, fishing, and spending time with his loving family at his beautiful Iona. Hector was a loving husband of 53 years and shared many great memories with his loving wife Mary MacNeil, their great love certainly showed with the love he had for his family, his three beautiful children, four grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Dad (Papa) was the rock, the strongest pillar you could find; he built his castle with love and strength that he took immense pride in. Just knowing he loved us all and always saying how proud he was of each and everyone of us made us feel honoured to have him as our dad (Papa) and we will miss him tremendously.
Hector is survived by a son Hector Jr. MacNeil (Shonna MacPhail); two daughters: Vicky (John) Tracey and Cathy McNeil; two brothers: Roddie MacNeil and Vince (Donalda) MacNeil; three sisters: Doris Lee, Betty (George) MacKinnon, and Sue Blois; four grandchildren: Jordan McNeil, Nicole McNeil (Joey), Mariah MacNeil, and Michael Connors; one great grandchild: Parker McNeil.
Along with his parents, Hector was predeceased by his wife Mary Agnes MacNeil; brothers Steve and Jackie MacNeil; sisters Margie Gouthro, Joanne Milley, Marie Walsh, Theresa Gouthro and Sadie Francis.
