Obituary of Janet Armour (Ince) Shirley
Please share a memory of Janet to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On August 13, 2024 at Halifax, Nova Scotia in her 101st year.
Beloved wife of the late R.J. (Jack) Shirley. Loved and remembered by her children, Anne Campbell and husband Don, and Pietra Shirley, her granddaughter Carolyn Jacobs and husband Daniel, and her great granddaughters, Lauren and Keira. Janet was predeceased by her son, David. Daughter of Strachan Ince and Armorel Drynan and sister of William Strachan Ince.
Born in Toronto in 1924, Janet had fond memories of her time at Brown School, Havergal College and Camp Tanamakoon. Janet spent two summers “farmeretting” with the Ontario Farm Service Force and then she served in the RCAF (WD) as a code and cypher clerk in Halifax during WWll. Before she was married, Janet spent a year in London, England working in a solicitor’s office. Janet loved living in Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal and Halifax with summers at the family cottage on Youghall Beach, Bathurst, NB. Travelling with Jack around the world gave her many special memories and friends far and wide. She found joy in family, friends, gardening, books, painting, needlework, and most definitely scrapbooks. Books were an integral part of Janet’s life. She typed Braille textbooks, which started her association with CNIB. She sorted books for Friends of the Oakville Public Library and was an active member of the Garden Guild of St. Jude’s Church, Oakville, Ontario. She will be missed by her many friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at The Cathedral of All Saints, Halifax, Nova Scotia on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at 11 am. Flowers gratefully declined.
