LOMOND - Melvin Thomas (Tom) of Bedford, NS (formerly of Corner Brook, NL) Tom passed on August 7, 2024, surrounded by family, at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Halifax. Born November 11, 1939 in Channel, NL to Victor (lost on sinking of SS Caribou 1942) & Elizabeth(Nelson Ingram) Lomond. Dad was always supportive, proud, generous, and loving. He always wanted the best for Dorothy, his daughters, granddaughters and great granddaughters! He always had the ability to jump in with a hilarious one liner and stated repeatedly that his lot in life was to be surrounded by beautiful women. Tom always demonstrated an incredible work ethic, as evidenced by a reference letter written in 1957, describing him as faithful, trustworthy, and honest by his managing director, who also predicted positive future advancement in his career. This proved true in his over 37-year career in the federal public service, volunteer work and personal life. Dad was truly loved by all that knew him, predeceased by the love of his life, Dorothy Lomond, in 2021, after over 63 years of marriage. His last two years living at The Berkeley Bedford, were filled with new friends, and caring staff who enriched his final years with a new sense of community. In the last few months caring personal support workers allowed him to remain at the Berkeley. We remember his smile, love of dance, darts, cribbage, trips to Second Cup for his hazelnut coffee, Alderney Market for blueberries and Pete’s Frootique for pears. He will be missed by his family and all that had the pleasure of meeting him. Tom is survived and missed by his children, Arlene Butt (John, aka, the son he never had) of Bedford, NS, Heather Roman of Orlando, Fl, Lisa Lomond (Jeff Hiltz) of Chester, NS. Also, granddaughters, Shelby (Dave Melfi) of Winter Park FL, Rebecca (Greg Cullen) of Orlando, Fl, Nicole and Victoria Roman of Orlando, Fl and great granddaughters, Gianna and Julia Melfi. Also left to mourn, his siblings, Margaret Hayman (Allan), George Ingram (Barbara), Leander Ingram (Mary Ann), Brenda Ingram (Edwin deceased), and David Ingram (Joanne) and their families. Cremation has taken place under the direction of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists. As per dad's wishes there will be no visitation or funeral. You can remember Dad through an act of kindness. Memorial donation to the charity of your choice graciously accepted. "May the winds of love blow softly and whisper for you to hear, that we will always love and miss you and wish that you were here." (Unknown)
