Obituary of Sonny Mullins

It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of John Edmond Mullins (Sonny), 72, of Glace Bay, NS August 9, 2024 at Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born in Glace Bay, NS, he was the son of John R. Mullins and Ellen Edith (James).
Sonny was an accomplished and honest Back Yard Mechanic, everyone’s go to person if they needed something fixed or a hard part to find. Sonny held many jobs throughout his career. He was employed as a Burner mechanic, he spent a number of years in the fishing industry, ending his career with Sydco Fuels. Sonny was a previous member of Cape Breton Search and Rescue, he enjoyed being outdoors either tinkering in his yard or going for drives on his ATV. He enjoyed playing cards with his family and sitting around chatting and telling stories. Later in his years he enjoyed going for evening coffees and spending time with his family.
Sonny is survived by his wife of 53 years, Gertie (Oakes); sons, John (Theresa), Brian; sisters, Lois, Lynn, Annette, Angie (Bill), Lisa (Mike), Diane; and Brianna (the apple of his eye) who he considered a granddaughter; uncles and aunts; sister in-law; brothers in-law; and many nephews and nieces.
Sonny is predeceased by his parents, John R and Ellen Edith Mullins (James); parents in-law; Gordon and Sadie Oakes; sisters, Barbara, Debbie; nephew, BJ; sisters in-law; brothers in-law; maternal and paternal grandparents.
A Visitation will be held August 15, 2024 between 1:00pm and 3:00pm with a short service to follow at T.J Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve Street, Glace Bay, NS, B1A 4X2.
