Obituary of Jeanette Yvonne Cooper

Please share a memory of Jeanette to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Jeanette Yvonne Cooper (Slaunwhite), 85, on August 4, 2024 at home with family by her side. Jeanette was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia on November 25, 1938, and was the 7th child to her parents Soloman and Ellen "Mae" Slaunwhite. Jeanette lived her early years in Halifax with her family on Brunswick Street. Jeanette met her soulmate Herbert "Bert" Cooper when she was 17 years old in Halifax. They married on September 6, 1958, and had remained happily married for the last 66 years. Jeanette and Bert lived in the Hydrostone in the North End of Halifax, which is where they brought up their family, and in more recent years lived in Herring Cove, NS. Jeanette was born a caring soul who had a steadfast love and loyalty to her family and friends. She was the most beautiful person, both inside and out, and her kindness and ability to find the good in all people and all situations was unmatched. Her positivity and gentle nature were rare and will be missed by anyone lucky to have known her. Jeanette had worked her career with the Canadian General Insurance Company as an Underwriter, where she met Diana Spears, with whom she shared a lasting friendship. Following her retirement, she spent much of her time knitting, and made many sets of hats and mittens for premature babies at the IWK. She also had an artistic streak, and had painted many pictures which are on display in her home, and homes of her family members. She took joy in life’s simple pleasures. She had a passion for playing cards, especially 45’s and Crib, which she did any chance she had. She loved to shop, play TV Bingo and also thoroughly enjoyed watching Curling, and would often call and discuss the games with her sister Joyce. Pool was another of her pastimes, and she especially enjoyed winning her nightly game with her husband Bert. She looked forward to receiving cards, notes and many jokes from her sister Shirley, and held a special place in her heart for all her siblings and their families. She was devoted to her immediate family and her children, Cristal and Brad. She loved seeing her grandchildren, and in more recent years her great-grandchildren. She is survived by her husband Herbert "Bert" Cooper; Children, Cristal (Mike) Ryan, and Brad (Betty Leamon) Cooper; Grandchildren, Lindsay(Chris), Kim (Justin), Joel (Lauren), Meagan (Nick) and Nicole (Richard); Great-Grandchildren, Nathan, Logan and Isabelle; Sister, Shirley Hayden; Brothers, Kenneth, (Bertha), Vernon (Marsha), Sherman and Michael (Connie) Slaunwhite; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; Soloman and Ellen "Mae"; Sisters, Lillian, Jean, Brenda and Joyce; Brothers, Carl, Robert and Harvey. Rest with the angels Jeanette, and we will listen to your whispers on the wind. Visitation will take place Monday, August 12, 2024 from 1-3 at T.J. Tracey Funeral Home (71 McQuade Lake Crescent, Bayers Lake, Halifax, NS).
