Dear family of Joan MacKinnon,
I was saddened to learn from a mutual friend today of the recent passing of Joan. Joan and I met during our undergraduate studies at Mount Saint Vincent University. Joan was a wise and witty mentor to her fellow, mostly younger, students. We admired her capacity to balance family life with her studies, serving as a role model for those of us who would follow her example in later life. When our paths crossed over the years, she graciously regaled others in attendance about how she and I were always neck-and-neck in a friendly competition for the best grades in our class. I think it would be fair to say that she won that race, as well as many others in life, as noted in her beautiful obituary.
Take care and take comfort from your memories of a great lady.
Kind regards,
Deborah McGinn Norris

Q: What will you never forget about Joan?
A: Shauna, extending my sincere sympathy in the loss of your mom. Although years have passed since MS Support get togethers, l fondly recall your mother's gentle kindness, especially towards my Steve. Reading today of her passing made me sad, but also, l realized what an extraordinary lady she was. How proud you must be to know her life mission was kindness as her love language. I do hope your wonderful memories will provide you strength and joy keeping her spirit close at hand. In deepest sympathy, Bettyanne Auld

I’ll always remember Joan’s pink kitchen and how she whipped up a batch of biscuits while chatting the first time we met. Her lovely garden was an inspiration. Such a warm and wise woman! Not to mention her flare for fashion and sewing. Thinking of you, Shauna and sending big hugs.
P.S. I couldn’t find a photo of Joan but did find this one of me in the MS Walk team jacket she made.
