I will miss seeing and spending time with Aunt Hazel. From my youngest memories of Christmases long past to my last visit in March, every time I've been in Halifax, Aunt Hazel and Uncle Ken had time to sit together (always together) and share not just the memories of the past but the details of the present. Life can get complicated, (Aunt Hazel - arm in a sling last visit) but Aunt Hazel and Uncle Ken just kept rolling with it. You were always a great team and I will endeavor to model that in my own marriage. I will miss you Aunt Hazel. You were loved. Be at peace. Uncle Ken, see you soon again. Maybe we can finally test drive my electric car. Maybe you can show me the old roads on which you used to "test drive" your cars...

Hazel and Ken were lifelong friends of my Mom and Dad, Louise and Ron Dugas. I have many fond memories of visiting The Reads and being served some of Hazel's famous home baking. Hazel and Ken were blessed to have had so many wonderful years together and we were very sad to hear of Hazel's passing. All our love to the family during this most difficult time. May many wonderful memories bring you peace.
Love,
Ellen (Dugas) & Brian Martell and family.

I am so filled with fond memories of my Aunt Hazel. She was an important link in the wheel that kept so many family traditions going: The big Christmas dinner or New Year's Dinner, alternating between our home and hers; Being a regular part of the Keji camping crew on Labour Day weekends; backyard barbeques. Perhaps most significantly, remembering EVERY special day with a card or in recent years, with a phone call. It meant so much to have the phone ring on my birthday, and know that I was being thought about by Aunt Hazel. She made everyone feel special and valued with her attention. A wonderful legacy.
love to Uncle Ken, and my cousins, Paul and Wendy.
big hugs from Anita

Ken, Paul and Wendy,
I am sorry to hear about Hazel. Mom and Dad would take us to visit your place and Hazel always had the best decorated cookies and coconut squares. I still have some of Mom’s recipe cards of the best Hazel recipes. My deepest sympathy to your family.

I will never forget how lovingly Aunt Hazel would look upon her dear husband while he was telling stories to the family. She showed me what my ideal of love is - a couple who truly care for one another. I loved the warmth that she brought to the room.
