SHAW, Julia Helen Age 90, of Bedford passed away on June 2, 2024 at the -QEII – Halifax Infirmary. Born in Newport Station, NS she was the daughter of Robie John and Ida May Flynn (Benjamin). Julia grew up in Newport Station, the youngest of ten children. She was Daddy’s little girl and she pretended he was her “little boy” by doing his hair and fetching him things he needed, like grass when he was in the outhouse. Her older siblings sometimes treated her like their own child as there was 20 years between the oldest and the youngest. She one time threw a five-dollar bill behind the sofa that her older sister gave her to buy a new Winter coat, because she thought it was just an old piece of paper. Nan always could make you laugh, and she married a man who had a good sense of humour like herself. In her final years, her caregivers often remarked about how funny she was and what a sweet person she was. In her prime she loved to leave her home in Lockhartville every few months for a shopping trip to one of the malls in Halifax. She would shop until she dropped, outlasting her teenage grand daughters time and time again. She was always busy helping her family run the farm and had boundless energy. She loved to garden, play cards with family and friends, cook and bake, go to the cottage in the summer and attend services regularly at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Grand Pre. Julia also was a member of the Fairview Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Halifax-Bedford, NS. The last 14 years of her life were spent in Bedford-Halifax with her oldest grand daughter. We will all miss her very much. Julia is survived by her grandchildren, Lisa Shaw (Halifax, NS), Carla Shaw (Howick, Quebec), Amber Anthony-Machado (West Lorne, Ontario), and Brandon Shaw (Sault Ste Marie, Ontario); sister, Pauline Millet (Flynn) formerly of Bedford NS, now residing in Digby NS , husband was Earl Millet (deceased).
