I know it's a late posting these thoughts but how do you say goodbye to someone you have known all your life? Our families were linked by proximity on Cabot St in the North End of Halifax. His grandparents, "Purcell" lived directly across from my grandparents, "Gillis". Both had large families and interacted continually. It was a great time and continued through all the hard times......and there were many. John was a little older than I and his sister Mary was best friends with my brother David. We still keep it touch. My earliest memory of John was seeing him and Kenny Cooper (another neighbour) wrestling on the lawn and the next yard etc. I see all of the old faces of the residents every time I dare to drive by. John was always part of what was going on and sort of a protector to us.
Many years later I moved to Brookside and hooked up with John in winter softball. We knew many of the same guys and were involved in hockey too, although I played out of the St Margaret's Bay league.
Time passes and as it does people move on but you never forget old friends. John or "Puppy" as he was know years ago was one of a kind, an all around good man.....but you already know that. What is important is that the legacy of the family continues and it does. Goodbye old friend and revel in the joy of seeing all those who left before you. Your earthly family is in good hands and will keep your memory alive.
On behalf of our combined families, GOD Bless.

My deepest condolences from Golda and me . John was a favourite customer of ours that always had a smile on his face when he stopped in with Anne at Golda’s Cafe . I played hockey with John for many years and he was a role model , never late and always organized and ready to go with a smile on his face , he took my under his wing on my first Moncton hockey tournament.

Anne, Scott, Patti, Karen and all the Chapman Family I was so sad that I couldn't attend your gathering in honor of John last night. My mind and heart were there with you all. We met John as you know Anne before your marriage and we became great friends over the years. The news about his passing has left both of us heartbroken. John was a very special, unique, kindhearted and fun loving guy that everyone that met him loved him. He will be loved and remembered by us forever. Rest in Peace Johnny.

Well John has left this world, however, memories abound. John helped out many along the way, however, his ability to grasp a situation and bring resolution made him special. A tradesman of many talents, overseer of construction projects and deliver of timely results. A good friend, a blast at poker games, a fantasy sports winner, runner, golfer.an all around good guy.
John thanks for the memories…you will be missed!

Very saddened to hear the news of John’s passing. I have countless fond memories of visiting him and his family every summer as a young kid. I always looked forward to visiting John and family and it was the highlight of my summer. John was always so kind to us all and hosted a fish fry/barbecue dinner every year with the entire family to welcome us for our week long vacation. He even entrusted my sister and I with taking his beloved pup Winston for daily walks when he hosted us at his house. His laugh was contagious and his passion for the bruins was unmatched, even by my father! My trips to the east coast will not be the same without the wonderful John Chapman. Sending my condolences to his wonderful family and friends.

My Name is Jamie Mayo and John is my Uncle. I feel compelled to write this about Uncle John as I have a lot of happy memories surrounding him. Most were of his annual Christmas gathering and poker games...all the kids would show up and the cousins would play together while the adults played cards. Uncle John was a very happy and popular guy and I believe everyone that ever met him loved him. I remember seeing him jogging to work from Prospect Bay all the way downtown thinking he was a lunatic! What is the definition of a fanatic? Someone who is more dedicated than you. That defines Uncle John but in a positive way...Uncle John was a fanatic for the ones he loved and the things he loved. I will miss him.

I was so saddened to read this. I had not seen John for many years but he was always posting kind words on Facebook in relations to my daughter’s curling accomplishments. I remember John fondly from travelling with him and Scott to hockey as a youngster. He was a kind, generous and respected man. I am so sorry for your loss. RIP Chappy!
