It is with deep sorrow, that we the family of Mary Delores “Dodie” Ward of Glace Bay, announce her peaceful passing on Thursday, March 28, 2024, on the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born in Sydney, N.S., Dodie was the daughter of the late Gordon and Lillian (Canning) Young.
Mom was a devoted homemaker, she was happiest preparing meals and being surrounded by her family, particularly for Sunday dinner, and the favourite part of these get-togethers was her delightful desserts. Mom loved a good game of crib, particularly when she would skunk Da at a game; Mom also enjoyed eating Werther’s candy and she loved the Toronto Blue Jays and never missed a game on TV.
Dodie is survived by four sons: Donnie (Margie) Young; Mickey, Billy, and Benny Ward; eight daughters: Annette, Darlene, Donna, Brenda (Wayne MacLeod), Sherrie (Stephen Bennett), Olga (James Burte), Rita (Chris Irving) and Liz (Gary VandePoele); a brother Ronald Young; two sisters Ann and Arlene (Roger Mackenzie); as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Along with her parents, Dodie was predeceased by her husband Benjamin, son Pat, daughter Honey and a brother John.
Visitation for the late Dodie Ward will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2024, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., and a Celebration of Life to be held on Friday, April 5, 2024, at 2 p.m., all in T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, N.S. 902-849-4199. Interment to be held at a later date in St. John’s Cemetery.
