It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Gladys Joyce Brooks at Melville Lodge, Halifax on March 23rd, 2024 at the age of 80. Born in Halifax Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late Leo and Thelma (Boutilier) Beaver of Indian Harbour, Nova Scotia. Left to mourn the loss of a wonderful life are her beloved husband (Gerald Edward Brooks of 62 years) Her Daughter Christine Holland (Richard Murphy) of Seabright, Son John (Sandra) Brooks of South Branch, Colchester County. Grandchildren, Sarah (Keenan) Elliot of Hatchet Lake, Garrett Brooks (Ashlea Morash ) of Terrence Bay, Great Grandson Ethan Elliot. Gladys spent most of her youth in Indian Harbour. She met the love of her life Gerald after visiting a family friend in Halifax. After starting a family they moved in search of work to St. Catherines, Ontario, where they lived for 8 years before settling in Hatchet Lake, where they continued raising their children. Gladys was a loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother. She loved spending time with her family. She especially cherished the years she spent with Gerald during their retirement. In the later years Gladys’ health declined, and as a loving devoted husband, Gerald spent his time caring for Gladys. Gladys spent many years working in the restaurant business. She was employed at Simpsons Limited then the Bay for several years as a cook before retiring. Gladys loved playing card games and cribbage and won several cribbage trophies and awards through the years. Bingo was a favourite of hers and she loved treating the workers with candy. Later in life she found Nintendo and spent many hours enjoying the game. Gladys is also survived by her brother, Leon (Anne) Beaver of Dartmouth; sisters, Carol (Norman) Morash of Dartmouth, Vina (John) Collins of Brookville; and many nephews and nieces. Besides her parents, Gladys is predeceased by brothers, Dale, Leo and Barry; sisters, Gail Bradshaw, Peggy Distefano, Brenda Jordan, Cora (Thomas) Verge, Pearl (Earl) Gray. Per Gladys’ wishes, there will be no service or celebration of life.
