Obituary of Rae Chisholm
Please share a memory of Rae to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with profound sadness that the family of Rae Chisholm announces her sudden passing on March 22, 2024 in Halifax, NS.
Rae was born to David and Joan Chisholm in Souris, PEI. She was one of three children: Alan and Norman. Rae proudly watched her niece and nephew, Amy and Graham [Alan and Joanne], grow up and held an unwavering love for their families. She maintained her strong connection to ‘home’ after settling in Halifax, and never passed up an opportunity to return to Souris to spend time with family and friends.
Rae met her husband, Billy, in Halifax. They eloped on New Year’s Eve of 1992 and welcomed daughters, Emily and Kathleen, in the years to follow. Rae loved being a mother. Rae’s unconditional love for her family was shown through endless support, countless laughs, and holidays that were made magical by her special touch. Some of Rae’s most cherished memories were spent at home surrounded by Billy, ‘the girls’ and their partners, Corey and Sean. Rae was more than a wife and mother; she was and always will be our best friend.
Rae was known for her dedication to helping others. After becoming a Registered Nurse (alumni of St. Francis Xavier University), Rae spent over 30 years nursing at the VG Hospital where she positively impacted the lives of both her patients and coworkers. Outside of work, she looked forward to dinners and outdoor adventures with friends, spending time in the garden, and adding to her boundless recipe collection.
Rae is remembered by her husband, Billy Allen; daughters, Emily [Corey] and Kathleen [Sean]; parents, Joan and the late David Chisholm; brothers, Alan [Joanne] Chisholm, Norman LaPierre; and countless others whose hearts she touched. Rae’s infectious smile, sense of ‘umour’, kind heart, and unrivaled ability to light up a room will always be remembered.
We thank everyone for the outpouring of love and support.
We are so proud of Rae and the mark she has left on this world. Whether rising, setting, or shining bright in the sky, look up and smile at our Rae of sunshine.
For all those who wish to honor Rae’s memory, a Celebration of Life will be held from 1-3p.m. on Saturday, March 30th in T.J. Tracey Cremation & Burial Specialists in Halifax. In addition, there will be a funeral service at St. Mary’s Parish in Souris, PEI on Monday, April 1st at 11am, followed by a reception at the Royal Canadian Legion in Souris.
Donations in memory of Rae can be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association.
