Obituary of Thérèse Goodyer

Thérèse Goodyer (née Brunelle), 68, of Prospect, NS passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 25, 2024, after a three-year fight against cancer. Born in British Columbia, she was the daughter of Paul and Gwendolyn Brunelle. Terry, as she was known, was driven by sincere and infectious passion for her family, her dogs, knitting, crafts, and her career. She approached each of these commitments with selflessness, generosity, and a creative problem-solving spirit. Street dogs in Spain that need help? She jumped on a plane with her “pseudo-daughter”, longtime family friend, Carol. They got their hands dirty and Terry even brought a dog home with her. Skeins of yarn just sitting there, waiting to be made into something beautiful? She picked up those knitting needles and created stunning shawls, socks and various other garments. Folks in her beloved old neighborhood in Eastern Passage need knitting skills? She organized and led classes at the local yarn shop, passing on knitting skills and building her community in the process. Terry was a connection builder, the glue that held us all together. Her intelligence and quick wit kept us on our toes, and always had us laughing. Her home and heart were always open, not just to her family, but to her community, and anyone who needed it. Terry was always one to look on the bright side, which she did bravely from her initial diagnosis to the very end. She was determined to make the most of the time she had left, with her family, community, and dogs by her side until the very end, in the home they made together. Terry loved her family deeply, both biological and chosen. This love will forever be felt by her husband Ronald (Al), her son, Peter, her daughter and son in law Annie and Keith, her “pseudo-daughter” Carol, her grand children Aria, Harley, Max and Maya and her great granddaughter, Pepper as well as several nieces and nephews and her dogs: Quinn, Brooke and Roscoe. We will be hosting a small celebration of her life on Sunday March 24, 2024, 2pm – 4pm at the Royal Canadian Legion, 3495 Prospect Bay Road. Just as Terry always looked on the bright side, we’ll be sharing stories of laughter and happy memories in accordance with her wishes. We would like to thank the 7A Palliative Care team at the Halifax infirmary as well as the community Palliative Care team, and all her continuing care workers who were so vital in helping Terry remain as happy and comfortable for as long as possible.
