Lois MacLeod
Sydney/Donkin, N.S.
The family of Lois MacLeod are sad to announce her passing on February 17, 2024, in MacGillivray Guest Home in Sydney, N.S. Having reached her 100th birthday last September, we are thankful for sharing her long and healthy life. Lois was raised in Dominion and was the daughter of the late John W. and Margaret (Nana) Nicholson.
Mom enjoyed a long and happy life together with her husband Dave in the village of Donkin. They enjoyed regular trips to the Inverary Inn in Baddeck and summer vacations on Prince Edward Island. Lois was a member of St. Luke’s United Church, Donkin, and was a member of the UCW, the church choir, and taught C.G.I.T.
Mom worked at the General Office and The Bay Medical Clinic for many years, but always found time to keep a good supply of homemade bread and various other goodies. Always ready with a camera, she cherished the role of Grandma and Great Grandma (G.G.) and blessed with a keen mind throughout her life. Mom followed their lives with pride and genuine love. She loved singing and playing the piano, from family sing songs to her years in the church choir and later through the excellent music and recreation program provided at MacGillivray’s Guest Home.
Our family would like to express sincere thanks to residents and staff of MacGillivray’s for their friendships and thoughtfulness shown to mom. Thank you to Dr. Archibald and Dr. Ley for caring for mom over the years.
Mom is survived by sons: Fraser (Kathy) and Scott (Debbie); grandchildren: Andrew (Devin), Stuart (Kerri), Katelyn (Jamie), D.J. (Taylor) and Nicolas; great-grandchildren: Lauren MacLeod, Ellis and Abby Gibson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The last surviving member of her immediate family, mom was predeceased by husband David; sisters Jeannie and Myrna; brothers Weldon and Allister; brothers-in-law Johnnie, Robbie, Neil, Alex, and Donald; sisters-in-law Annie, Wibbie, Isabel, Jean, Helen, and Ruth.
As per mom’s request cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held Tuesday, February 27, 2024, from 1-2 p.m. with a Celebration of Life at 2 p.m., with Rev. Bob Biggar presiding, all in T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay. 902-849-4199. Interment will take place at a later date in St. Luke’s Cemetery.
