It is with great sadness that we, the family announce the sudden passing of Mary Clare Sampson, age 71 on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Mary Clare was the daughter of the late Thomas and Margaret McCarthy. She was a member of the former St. Eugene’s Parish of Dominion.
Clare was a devoted Catholic and over the years took great pride in her work with the church. Her early roles in the church included Eucharistic minister, lector, and teacher of religious education, children’s liturgy, and secretary and sacrament co-ordinator. Clare was also involved in the challenge and cursillo movement.
She devoted 40 plus years of service to the church and to the children, and she treated each individual very special. Clare was a very humble, loving, kind and compassionate lady who welcomed everyone with open arms.
Mary Clare is survived by her loving husband, Patrick Sampson of 51 years; She will be dearly missed by her children, Mary (Terry), Ann Marie(Steven), Buddy, Chris, Murdock (Jenn), Bradley, Paula (Ian); her precious grandchildren, Jessie, Tamara, Reanna, Brooke, Baileigh, Kylie, Ash, Luke, Nathan and Hannah; great grandson, Luca. She is also survived by her siblings, Anne,
Tommy (Alice), Carol (Allen) Allyson (Sandy), Robert (Joan), and Rose (Tim); father-in-law Earl Sampson; as well as many nieces, nephews, and close friends.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by mother-in-law, Irene Sampson, lifelong friend, Sheila Kelly.
Special thank you to the paramedics, ER department, nurses, doctors, and all those in Palliative Care at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital; and to all the many parishioners and volunteers who helped Clare over the years.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 29, 2024, from 3-5 p.m. in T.J. Tracey Funeral Home, Glace Bay. A memorial mass will be held 11: 00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at Immaculate Conception Parish, Bridgeport, with Fr. Daniel Boudreau officiating.
