Obituary of Michael Roderick Purcell
Please share a memory of Michael to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
With broken hearts we announce the passing of Michael R. Purcell, age 84, on January 14, 2024 with his family by his side from complications of renal failure. Born February 4, 1939, he was the son of the late Stanley and Alice (Innis) Purcell of Purcell’s Cove.
As the last surviving member of his family, he was predeceased by sisters, Dot, Trudy, Edie, Jackie, Lillian (Bing), Celie, Elaine, Margie and brothers, Allan and Steven.
He is survived by his adoring wife of 58 years, Marilyn (Ogden), son - Michael (Nella); daughters - Pamela Purcell; Angela (Shawn Johnson) and grandchildren, Tori, Michael, Kaleigh, Brooke and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was the rock of our family, deeply loved and respected. His grandchildren were the apples of his eye. As their biggest cheerleader, he was very involved in their lives and looked to him for words of advice.
Michael worked in sales all of his working career, was a dog lover and an avid Montreal Canadians fan. He will be greatly missed in the summer months in his little piece of heaven, Brule Beach.
He showed amazing strength and resilience during his lengthy illness, always showed his appreciation to others and had a sense of humour to the very end. Thank you to the amazing teams at the QEII (Dialysis, Cardiac and Orthopedic) and the 5B nursing staff at the VG Hospital for their amazing care.
Cremation has taken place by T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists. A celebration of life will be held January 21, 2024 from 2pm to 4pm in the Common Room at 169 Regency Park Drive, Halifax. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the QEII Dialysis Unit.
