Obituary of Delores Jacqueline Kelloway

Please share a memory of Delores to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Delores Jacqueline Kelloway, 83 Glace Bay, N.S. It is with great sadness that we the family announce the passing of Delores Jacqueline Kelloway, 83, in Hospice Cape Breton surrounded by her loving family and dear friends on January 8th, 2024. Born in Glace Bay, Delores was the daughter of the late Edward Francis and Helen (Whiting) Ford. Delores is survived by her son Michael (Catherine Walsh), brothers Rocky (Thelma) and Glenn (Linda), her sisters-in-law Kay Ford and Mary Ford, and brothers-in-law John Chauder and Gerald Bennett. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. She will be missed by her close friends who she considered family. She was predeceased by her husband Michael (Mick) of 47 years and her siblings and their spouses: Danny (in infancy), Jerry (Marie), James “Bunny” (Rosie), Archie, Frances (Bill Sudworth), Hoyles (Florence), Arthur, Sidney, Alice Bennett, and Paul. She is also predeceased by sisters-in-law Sabina MacPherson and Rose Chauder. In her younger years, Delores worked at the local fish plant, then at Point Edward Hospital in Westmount as a dietary cook. She loved skating and spending time with her brothers and sisters. Throughout her life, Delores volunteered in her community with Girl Guides and the Canadian Cancer Society. Delores was known for being a fabulous cook and always had extra on hand for family and friends who knew they were welcome to drop by at any time. Delores loved the trips for the Mine Rescue Competitions, along with her husband Mick (a miner and overman for Mine Rescue) they both loved their time spent with the Mine Rescue “boys” as Delores would call them, and they fondly referred to her as “Ma.” Their home was the gathering place for their parties where all were welcome and beautiful meals were shared. She always spoke fondly of Miners’ Vacation, camping at Mira Park, and, in later years, time spent at Red Islands. Delores was a beautiful lady who was warm, loving, and generous to all. She will be remembered for the strength and grace she displayed as she dealt with illnesses throughout her life, and especially during her courageous battle with cancer these last number of years. The family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Melanie Adams and the staff of the Cape Breton Cancer Centre, especially Dr. Khodadad, Eleanor Cooke RN, and Amanda McKinnon NP. We would also like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Glace Bay Hospital, 3rd Floor East, and Dr. Anne Frances D’Intino and staff at Hospice Cape Breton. We are extremely grateful for the ongoing care and compassion extended to Delores throughout her illness. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, January 27th, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Norman MacPhee presiding. A reception to follow at the Glace Bay Miner Forum Community Room and is under the direction of T.J.
