Andrew John Newell Glace Bay It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of Andy Newell, age 83, on Sunday, December 31, 2023, at Victoria Haven Nursing Home. He was the husband of Marilyn (Simpson) Newell for 62 years. Born in Glace Bay, on January 22, 1940, he was the son of the late Jordan and Myrtle (Morrison) Newell. Andrew had been a dispatcher for DEVCO railway for over 30 years. He was an avid member of Golden K's, The Odd Fellows, Shriners, and he was a Mason. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son James A. Newell (Mary Nearing); brother Allan Newell (Dorothy), London, ON; grandchildren Candace, Paige, and James Newell; as well as great-grandchildren Taylor and McKayla Newell. Along with his parents, Andrew was predeceased by his daughter Myrtle Ann Newell, brother Gerry Newell and sisters-in-law Debbie (Simpson) Corbett and Jean (Simpson) Grant. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2024, from 2-4 p.m. in T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay. 902-849-4199. There will not be a Funeral Service. Donations may be made to the N.S. Diabetic Association, or a charity of one’s choice. Words of comfort may be expressed to the family by visiting www.tjtracey.com.
