Please share a memory of Deborah to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Deborah (Cox) Reid, RN, 62, 1961-2023 Dominion, N.S. It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of our mother, grandmother, and sister Debbie Reid of Dominion, N.S., on December 15, 2023, in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital with her loving children by her side. Debbie was born and raised in New Aberdeen and was the daughter of the late William “Billy” and Penelope “Babe” (Currie) Cox. After graduating from high school, Debbie met and later married her husband Brad and had three beautiful children. Debbie was a devoted mom to her three children and stayed home with them until her youngest started school. Debbie later returned to school and obtained her Registered Nurses diploma in 1995. Debbie was very proud of her accomplishment as being the last graduating class from St. Rita’s School of Nursing. Debbie spent her career working in the field of her dreams as a Mental Health Nurse on 1B at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Unfortunately, Debbie’s career only lasted thirteen years due to her diagnosis of cancer which left her with many health issues that would no longer allow her to work. Debbie was cancer-free for fourteen years until her cancer returned two months ago. Debbie was a strong woman who fought till the very end, she may have been small in stature, but she was mighty in nature. Debbie enjoyed and got great pleasure out of talking to people and giving them advice. Although she was no longer working, the mental health nurse in her had never left. She loved scrolling through Facebook and voicing her opinions on the latest news and gossip. Debbie was always up for fun and good for a laugh. Debbie’s greatest past-time was reading tarot cards for those who needed her guidance and insight and was told by numerous people that she was spot on with her predictions. Debbie is survived by her three loving children, daughter Ashley (Bruce) Strong, daughter Holly (Thiago) Garcia, and son whom she resided with, Clinton Reid. Debbie loved her three children and their spouses and was always there to lend a helping hand, she would move mountains to help them if she had to. She is also survived by her five beautiful grandchildren (Nanny’s babies) Gracie, Nicholas, Joshua, Eric, and Ethan. There was nothing more important in life to “Nanny” than her babies. She also leaves behind her brother William “Junior” Cox and his two sons Brady and Jonathan, her mother-in-law Murdena (Reid) Young and her life-long best-friend who she considered as her sister, Maxine McNeil. She also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends whom she loved dearly. Debbie is predeceased by the father of her children and best-friend Brad Reid. As per Debbie’s wishes cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 21, 2023, beginning at 10 a.m., followed by a Celebration of Life at 12 p.m., all in T.J. Tracey’s Funeral Home 370 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. 902-849-4199. The family would like to thank Maxine McNeil and Carol Strong for their friendships, kindness, and support to their mom over the years. They would also like to thank the staff of 4D at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for their dedication and devotion to their mom. Over the past six weeks she was treated like a queen and loved the bond she shared with all the staff. Words of comfort may be expressed to the family by visiting www.tjtracey.com. Mom, Those we love Don’t go away, They walk beside us Every day. Unseen, unheard, But always near, Still loved, still missed And always dear.
