Obituary of Dorothy Cottreau

Dorothy Cottreau (nee Wall), Halifax, NS, passed away at Halifax, NS. Born in Sydney, NS, she was the daughter of William and Elva (O’Farrell) Wall. Dorothy was a loving mother to her daughters Melanie, Mary Elizabeth, and to her grandson, Brydon. Dorothy passed away peacefully, in her home, surrounded by her loved ones, after a brief battle with cancer on Saturday, December 2, 2023. Dorothy was predeceased by her niece Tessa Evangeline Echavez. She worked at the Nova Scotia Health Authority for 32 years. She began her career at Camp Hill in Accounts Receivables. She has worked on several teams including the business office, banking, general ledger, and continuing care. Dorothy loved having fun and bringing people together. She took pride in organizing work events such as birthdays, Christmas parties, and fundraising events. After retiring from the NSHA, she started her next chapter with the Canadian Blood Services where she thrived in helping those around her. She loved bowling. She was an avid reader and especially enjoyed her Korean Dramas. She was an excellent chef and made every Christmas a very delicious Christmas. She loved to bake, and everyone loved her M&M sugar cookies. Dorothy was such a special person who never complained and who always helped those around her. She was loved by all and will be missed by everyone who had the pleasure of meeting her. Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Mary Elizabeth Cottreau and Melanie Cottreau; her grandson Brydon Barnett; brothers, Doug Wall and Philip (Bonnie) Wall; sister, Patricia (Rolan Echavez) Wall; sister in-law, Anna Wall; and her nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. The family of Dorothy would like to thank everyone that sent their best wishes to her, as well as, a big thank you to the Palliative Care Team, especially Meghan, for her kindness and compassion. We would also like to give a special thank you to Dr. Krueger-Naug. A Celebration of Life will be held for Dorothy on Sunday, December 17th, 2023, at her apartment complex (21 Parkland Drive, Halifax NS) between the hours of 1pm and 4pm.
