I am so sorry to hear that Mike had passed away, my deepest condolences. He was a caring individual and I along with the many employees that worked under Mike's direction enjoyed his company and friendship. I and the employees at Superannuation all came together to give him a retirement send off in 1996 and I have captured the events on video. You can see it on YouTube at:

I wish to send condolences to Mike's family on his recent passing - a sad surprise. I first met Mike during my time as Admin Assistant to his Father, Frank Dempster, Sr., Human Resources Director at Camp Hill Hospital. As Mike & I worked our way through the Public Service, we would cross paths on occasions or at events with big smiles, hugs and "how are you doing". His personality and enjoyment for life, I am sure, will be greatly missed.

My dear Bonnie, Jackie and were shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of Mike. We have so many fond memories of Mike in the workplace and of with the two you during our numerous outings at office gatherings/parties. Every year I return to St. Andrews and still reminisce about the weekend we spent at the Algonquin the year they celebrated their 100 anniversary. Mike was a special person, one I always considered a friend. Always amicable, open door, always thoughtful and treated everyone with respect and dignity. A few years ago we tried to contact both of you through social media but came out empty.
Our sincere condolences to you, his family and all of his friends. Our prayers and thoughts are with you all during these difficult times. He will be missed!!!

I am so sorry to hear of Mike's passing. He was a such an inspiration in my career. He was serving as RDG when the American's left us with the former Naval Facility Argentia in Newfoundland, and I was the environmental lead on the negotiation team for Canada. I have often told the story of being in the back of a cab with Mike on the way to the US Embassy in Washington, where I was to be giving a presentation to their high powered, lawyer stacked, team. I was terrified, but Mike, well aware of my feelings, had me laughing so hard the jitters melted away. It is one of my fondest memories - the two of us rolling around the back of the cab in tears from laughter. He trusted me with several more of these presentations with members of parliament, premieres, and ambassadors, and each time Mike was there for me with his calming presence and humour. I tried to carry both of these traits forward throughout my career, as well as his people first approach to everything. I am retired now, but I was happy to see them carry on through my team.
I am so sorry for your loss. He was such a great guy.

Bonnie,
I am so deeply sorry for your loss. Such a kind, generous and caring person taken far too soon. Michael was a colleague, a mentor ,
a golf pal and a very trusted friend. He was always there in time of need with a kind word or a piece of sound advice. He was truly an individual who cared for and related to everyone with whom he came in contact. I recall a time when he was the Director General for the Atlantic PWGSC. One day he visited the Supply Center in Dartmouth and went around introducing himself to all of the staff and taking the time to chat with each one. About eight months after that particular visit he again made the rounds of the office, chatting with the staff. Imagine my amazement when he remembered not only everyone's name but recalled the names of their children, the hockey tournaments they had played in, names of husbands and wives, etc. This, to me, epitomizes who Michael was. And in all the years I knew him he never changed. An amazing person indeed. I will miss him dearly but I am very glad to have had him in my life. He will always be with me.
Bonnie, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Dear Bonnie,
We are so sorry to hear of Mike’s passing. He was a wonderful friend to both Dennis and I through the years.
Mike and Dennis met when they first joined the Public Service, and though they were in different departments, they became friends. Later they found themselves in the same department. And after they retired from the Public Service, just one year apart, Mike asked Dennis to work with him on various projects. Throughout all those years Dennis could always count on Mike’s friendship, kindness, understanding and support.
Dennis and I have many happy memories of visiting you both in Halifax, then your new home in Prospect and during our winter visits to Myrtle Beach and Palm Harbor.
Our sincere condolences to all the family. May all the happy memories shared with Mike be a comfort to you.

Bonnie and Entire Family,
“A life well-lived never dies.” Ciero
Sending hugs and prayers to you all at this time of sadness. Mike always had a kind word and was keenly interested in our well-being. We will miss his gentleness and warm greetings on our walks in Prospect Village. He loved playing guitar and singing with our St. Joseph’s Church Choir and worked diligently practicing the chords and songs, generously giving his time at services and rehearsals. Thank you Mike for your heartfelt friendship.
