Obituary of Sheila Munro (Stevens)
Please share a memory of Sheila to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Our beautiful mom, Sheila (Stevens) Munro passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 8, 2023. Born in Halifax on October 18, 1942, Sheila was the youngest daughter of the late B.D. and Eva Stevens.
Mom was a graduate of the Halifax Ladies College and later became a licensed hair stylist which she worked at for many years. But it was later in life that she found her true calling as an Early Childhood Educator. She loved working with children, and they in turn loved her for her warm and gentle teachings. Sheila spent time giving back to others, volunteering her time making beanies and blankets for the children’s hospital. She had many hobbies including knitting, sewing and rug hooking, and her children and grandchildren will cherish the items she lovingly made for them and the skills she taught them.
Sheila was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, daughter and sister. Her family was so important to her and she loved spending time with them all. She loved to cheer her grandchildren on at their sporting events and other activities; she was their biggest fan. Sheila always had as much energy as they did, and loved playing games with them and loved the never-ending pranks they pulled on her. She was the first one on the toboggan, never missed an opportunity to try the zip line, play a board game or share a story.
Sheila will be missed by her loving children: Daughters Tara (Bill) Stephenson; Shawna (Dennis Berrecloth) Paton; Braunwyn (Brian) Powell; and her son Colman (Judy) Munro. As well as her cherished grandchildren: Ian (Erin), Lauren (Jordan), Bryan (Kat), Chelsea (Josh), Jacob (Sara), Nicole (Brennan), Erika, Breagh, Ryan and Kyle. She was also the proud great grandmother of Olivia and Norah, was excited about a third great grandchild who is expected later this month, and was always excited about the prospect of more great grandchildren.
Besides her parents, Sheila was predeceased by her husband, John Munro, in 2017. Also by her brothers, Reid and Laurie, and her five sisters Helen Thompson, Mona Pierce, Jean Pierce, Audrey Keeping and Elsie Lewis.
The family would like to thank Sheila’s closest friend Joan Collins, and her niece and nephew, Cherie and Paul Lewis for all the love they provided during her care at the Infirmary. And a huge thank you to the loving care provided by the nurses on 8.3.
Cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been made for visitation at TJ Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists on November 12, 2023 at 11:00am. A private family burial will take place at a later time. In Sheila’s memory, do as she would and perform an act of kindness for someone else.
Although we are heartbroken and will miss her dearly, especially her stories and laughter, we are relieved that she is free of pain. Rest in peace, Mom. We will love you forever. “High Five.”
