Muriel Olive Stone (nee Simpson) aged 87 of Halifax - born in Great Village NS, August 15th, 1936, passed away October 25th, 2023, peacefully at home in Hammonds Plains, surrounded by her children and loving husband of almost 66 years. LIFE achievements: Meeting the love of her life & best friend on a blind date in 1957, Steve and Muriel married later that same year on the HMCS Bonadventure. Welcoming Randall then Sheryl a few years later. Moved to Napanee, ON in 1965 for 5 years then returned to Halifax for her remaining years. While living in Ontario, she became the local Cub Scouts 3rd Nappanee Pack leader. Muriel worked in several banking locations around HRM during her career (majority with CIBC Bayers Rd). Her love of travel took them to Hawaii, England and Europe, Cancun, Florida, Nashville, Bangor, North Conway. Enjoying Canada locations such as Newfoundland & Labrador, trips to see family in British Columbia and Ontario, also enjoying camping trips with her family when they were young. Her love of baking for ALL the family distinctly her “Nanny’s Cookies” that the grandkids devoured, homemade brown bread, squares, cakes galore and her traditional Bits and Bites at Christmas. She loved her extended family, nieces, nephews etc. and following all their developments. She also loved to knit clothing and blankets for her family to enjoy. An avid Blue Jay fan, she spent many a late night staying up to watch the games and seeing a game live was a highlight. She was practical, supportive and selfless in her guidance. We will all miss her dearly and forever in our hearts She is survived by husband Stephen, son Randy (Alison), daughter Sheryl (Paul) Read, sister Barb (Darrell) Works and sisters-in-law Carol (Dean) Thompson, Betty (Don) Mills. Grandchildren, Shae, Gillian, Daniel and Tristan. Predeceased by her parents Guy and Marian Simpson (Hayman), brothers Chester (Mae) Simpson, Kenneth (Addie) Simpson, sisters Margery (Gervin) Rector and Hazel (Russell) Gallant. A grave side service at Mahon Cemetery in Great Village will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Heart and Stroke foundation, the Cancer Society or make a blood donation in her honour. Special thanks to all medical professionals that had helped mom.
