Obituary of Kathryn Downey

It is with great sadness that we share the peaceful passing of Kathryn Mellish Downey, age 70 of Halifax on September 14, 2023. Raised in Terence Bay, she was the daughter of the late William and Elsie Mellish. Left to mourn with loving memories is her son, Martin Jollimore (Serena); and her three grandchildren, Katie, Shelby, and Benjamin. Kathryn was a warm and loving woman who was loved by all who met her. Throughout her life she worked at various positions within the government before taking an early retirement. After that she spent her time between Halifax and her second home in Florida. She had a significant network of close friends there that she spoke of often and whom gave her great joy in her life. Kathryn had a very fulfilling life and loved her family and friends dearly. Her close friend Barry was by her side daily during her illness and was an amazing support to her right up until the day of her passing. Her other dear friend Dawn was also there for her in so many ways during her illness and we can’t thank her enough. To honour Kathryns wishes there will be no service. After cremation she will be laid to rest in beautiful Terence Bay. Martin would like to thank all those who visited his mom, reached out and who offered support in any way during this difficult time. He would also like to thank the wonderful and caring staff at the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax who took care of her throughout her illness. We take comfort in knowing she is now at peace.
