Please share a memory of John "Greg" to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Greg MacLean, 70 Tower Rd. We the family are heartbroken to announce the passing of our husband, father, brother, uncle and friend, Greg Maclean, at the age of 70. Greg passed away peacefully at home on August 27, 2023, with his family by his side. Born in Glace Bay he was the son of the late Mary O’Regan MacLean and John Allan MacLean. First and foremost, Greg was a wonderful husband and true hands-on dad, Deanne and Jon were the absolute light of Greg's life. He enjoyed his summer vacations watching their son Jon play ball and winters at the rink watching him play hockey. Greg was an avid baseball player himself, playing until the late 80s and was a fan watching games until the very end. Greg loved antique cars and would often attend the car shows and races whenever they came to town. He was a true sports fanatic watching darts, and supporting his favourite teams, Toronto Blue Jays, and most of all the Montreal Canadians. Greg and Deanne enjoyed their time playing in several dart leagues over the years. He enjoyed time with his family and friends whether it be on his deck by the pool or at Christmas where he got to show off his lights and decorations, something he thoroughly loved. Greg was always good for a laugh and loved a good joke. He enjoyed the visits from his dearest friend and partner in crime Danny Moffatt, and his oldest friend Donald (Duck) Smith. Greg is survived by his loving wife Deanne of 38 years and their son Jonathon along with his fur baby Mya, who never left his side. He is also survived by daughters Laura Anne MacLean and Ashley (Kurt Ferguson) of Glace Bay; brother Paul (Rose) of Tower Road, sisters-in-law Tammy (Darren Kennedy), Barbara (Neil MacLean), brothers-in-law Darryl (Tracey) and Les who he thought of as a son; three grandchildren Jarrod, Cameron, and Nora as well as nieces Chelsey and Kailey, nephews Brendan, Nicholas, and Cole; mother-in-law Monica and dear friend Minnie. Greg was predeceased by his parents Mary and John Allan MacLean, fathers-in-law Harry Murphy and Les Wells, and brother-in-law Ray Wells. We the family would like to send a huge thank you to Greg’s palliative care nurse, Brett Gillis, whom Greg thought of as a true friend and to Dr. George Burns. Brett was there for anything Greg needed whether it be a chat or medical assistance, he went above and beyond his line of work; any advice, questions, or moral support for Deanne, John, and Les; Brett was there. Thank you doesn’t seem fitting enough for all that they have done for him, they both made Greg’s last days very comfortable and we can’t thank you enough. A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, September 3, 2023, at 4:00 pm, in Tower Road Fire Hall, 2410 Birch Grove Road, Tower Road. Family flowers only, memorial donations may be made to Tower Road Fire Hall or Palliative Care of Cape Breton. Words of condolences may be expressed to the family by visiting www.tjtracey.com.
