I had the pleasure of knowing Rick back at Mount Allison Univ., where we graduated from Commerce class of 1973. WE went to work in different companies in Saint John that year and were roommates for 74 -75. On Jan 4/74 the Irving gas station at the Reversing Falls blew up as a result of a truck driver running into a pump; resulting in 4 deaths. We were quite close and experienced the shock wave as we sat in our apartment. We had many experiences that were much nicer hanging out that year. Rick was a great guy and I am sure he will be missed. My condolences to his family. Rest in Peace Rick.

I remember Rick fondly from Sept Iles. He was a couple of years older than me but I knew him, his older brother Ronnie and his sisters, Nancy and Susan. Nancy was a classmate. When he graduated high school and went on to university, he passed along his Montreal Gazette newspaper route to me.
Rest easy, sir. You are missed

I love these photos of Rick; in a crowd and as part of a team his trademark beautiful smile always won the day, formed the day. When task with something challenging, he could build a little grimace. It never lasted long, and I loved him for it. He relished a challenge, and his solutions were not just functional, they had elegance. I don't ever remember having a day with Rick that was "more' something. Every day, every meeting, every trip, every meal was always fun, full of laughter, light, good natured, respectful and just generally cool. He was as close to Hollywood cool as Halifax had, it never surprised me when I remembered he was from Montreal, and educated at MT A. It was like he came from another world. And when we accomplished something, he would turn to me and say with a literal twinkle in his eye, "One less thang." Love ya buddy, we will all miss you as long as we live.

So very sorry to hear of his untimely passing. I first met Rick in 1978 when we were at Barrow Nicoll & Company, chartered accountants. During our time in public practice, he was well known for his innovative strategies in income tax planning. We also shared a great love for sailing and boats, which became a lifelong interest for both of us. He was a very good fellow to be with, a real people person, who enjoyed what life had to offer.

I met Rick when I followed him into the office of Vice Commodore Finance at RNSYS. At the Squadron we had an alcoholic dinner at which we resolved our two firms should merge, an idea we took back to our Partners and made it happen. We shared a joy of sailing, fishing and wine. Not only did I enjoy his enthusiastic contribution to the business in which we were partners but he was a “mate”. Sad he has gone so young.
