ARMITAGE, Mary Ellen “Lennie” passed peacefully and on her own terms on July 24 2023. Born in New Waterford on November 23, 1941 to Charles and Catherine Chiasson. Lennie moved to Halifax NS at the young age of 14. While working at the Green Lantern Restaurant on Barrington St in the early 60s she met the man who would become her husband, W. Frederick “Freddy” Armitage HPD Constable, walking his beat. In her working years Mom worked at Sears Catalogue Warehouse moving on to be the best Walmart greeter in the world at the Mumford Rd location. Famous for attending her sons' ball and hockey games with the other local moms throughout the 70s and 80s she was a well-known fixture in the stands (no, she didn't have a cowbell). A tradition that carried on when her granddaughter was playing soccer in person and on TV. Mom was a longtime Legion member and avid dart player and bowler until her health started to fail. Lennie’s legacy will live on in her sons and their families. Proudly survived by sons, Glenn (Michelle), Fred (Suzanne); grandchildren, Shelby, Caitlin, and Shannon. Lennie was predeceased by her beloved, GSD’s Max, Rommel and Max (the 2nd).
