Dolena Mae (MacRury) Brewster
Glace Bay
It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the peaceful passing of Dolena Brewster at her residence with her loving family by her side on Friday, July 21, 2023.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Dan Alex and Johenna MacRury.
Dolena was a dedicated mother first and for most. She treasured her children and grandchildren and embraced every moment with them. She especially love her role as ‘Nanny Ma’. She was a homemaker who was famous for her curried chicken and rice. She enjoyed walking, gardening, casino and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Mom was a strong, determined and fiercely independent woman. Most of all she loved her family and instilled in us strong values that have served us well. We will miss her every day.
Dolena is survived by her loving children; Sidney Brewster (Shauna), Sandra Brewster, Charmaine Brewster and Michele (Starr) MacDonald; her four precious grandchildren, Lindsay, Ryan Brandon and Brenna; sister-in-law, Annie MacRury as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband, Sidney ‘Sandy’ Brewster; sisters, Marguerite, Margaret Rose and Beverly; brothers, Lawrence, Angus, Leroy, Sheldon and Jimmy; sister-in-law, Madelaine; best friends, Catherine MacDonald and Kay Sampson.
Cremation has taken place. There will be a graveside service at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Palliative Care or a charity of choice.
The family would like to extend thanks and appreciation to family, friends, and all the staff at Glace Bay Hospital, Cape Breton Regional Hospital (4D, Cancer Center, and Palliative Care), Continuing Care and VON. Our family find solace in the belief that our Mom and Dad are reunited in heaven.
