Obituary of Gertrude "Tootsie" Mae French

Gertrude “Tootsie” Mae French, 84 Glace Bay, NS It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother Gertrude "Tootsie" Mae French, age 84, on July 19, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Tootsie was born in Glace Bay on January 13th, 1939, to the late Thomas and Gertrude (Boutilier) MacPherson. Mom took pride in her home and yard. She loved to garden annually and looked forward to her flowers blooming each year. Mom had a quick-witted sense of humour. She was always making you laugh and loved to have fun. Dancing with her sisters and friends was where mom found great pleasure. She was an avid bowler and skater and would not leave the house unless all dolled up. Mom is survived by daughter Sheri (Freddie), son Johnny (Shirley); grandchildren: Nicole (who was like a daughter to mom), Stephen, Kyle (Jaclyn), and Danielle (Nick); great grandchildren: Laikyn, and Lachlan; sister Joan, and sisters-in-law Agnes, Donna, and Vera, and many nieces and nephews. Mom was predeceased by her daughter, Donna, whom she missed dearly. Brothers, Will, Tom, Gus, Neil, Dan, Mark, Lem, and Johnny; sisters, Isabell, and Emily. Mom was also predeceased by her dog, Miko, whom she cherished and missed daily. Thank you to Cindy, mom's niece, for her frequent visits and suppers. As per Mom's request, cremation has taken place under the care of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, Glace Bay. A celebration of life will be held at a future date.
