One nice summer day I took Jim mackerel fishing in Aspy Bay. We caught a few fish and probably had a few beer. Out of no where the fog rolled in. Of course we had no compass. We didn’t know which way was Dingwall and which way was Newfoundland!
We could barely hear the bell buoy. He said “Crank up that motor and head for the buoy. “ I told him it was difficult to tell direction and didn’t want to end up on the rocks of Markland.
We were happy to eventually see the breakwater. Had a few laughs about it later.

Jim was one of my favourite regular visitors to our post office in Dingwall. He made me smile and laugh with his saucy attitude and that cheeky grin he'd get when he had something sarcastic to say. He always brightened my day when we chatted, and I am heartbroken to know I will not be able to see his smile again in person. I will think of him often. A donation has been made in his honour, to the CBRH foundation for the renal dialysis unit.

So very very sorry to hear of Jim's passing,I just came across this obituary by chance. We both worked at the Kmart in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island .Jim was a co-manager and I was the lost prevention manager. We got along very good, I had a ping pong table in my basement, and Jim used to come over on Sundays and we'd play for hours and have a beer. One day we were goofing around in the store and Jim wanted to try on the handcuffs I was carrying and I handcuffed him and took them off after a minute or so.
He wanted to see how the key worked and he locked and unlocked them so he returned the handcuffs to me minus the key. I said, where's the key? He said, I'm going to keep it. I said, why? He said in case I ever get arrested . We got along great and had a lot of fun. Now the store manager that he worked with is in our hospital and not doing very well.
