Barbara Diane Smith
It is with profound sadness that we, the family of Barbara (Barb) Diane Smith, announce her passing. Barb passed June 4, 2023, at home, surrounded by the love and support of her family and is now reunited with her mom, and sister Donna.
Born May 29, 1963 in Glace Bay, Barb was the daughter of Reginald (Red) Smith and the late Barbara (Bobby) Smith.
Barb was a proud military spouse who lived in several different postings before she and her husband Graham retired to her home of Glace Bay. Graham was Barb’s rock and the love of her life for over thirty years. Together they raised a beautiful family with Chiara and Matthew who were her world. She was beyond proud of their accomplishments and was blessed to know she left behind two amazing adults to carry her spirit forward. It was no great secret that her grandson Austin was her favorite person… her pride and joy. Their bond was immeasurable.
Barb had a wonderful sense of humour and was the life of the party and she knew it! She was also a fierce competitor when playing Corn Hole as well as many other games. Her laughter will be forever missed. She has touched so many lives and we are forever thankful and blessed that we were part of her journey.
Barbara is survived by her father Reg; her husband Graham Fequet, daughter Chiara (Jonathan Comer), son Matthew (Elizabeth Tomko); sister Nancy (Jim MacLean), Halifax; brothers, Reggie, Joey (Tracey) both of New Brunswick and brother-in-law Gary Hooper. She is also survived by her grandson Austin; grandniece Khloe and grandnephew Rory; as well as several aunts and uncles, multiple nieces, and nephews; nieces Tara and Lauren, and her nephew Jarret with whom she was especially close. Also, her lifelong friend Kelly Gillis.
She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Joan, Helen (Tom), Wanda and Marilyn (Chris); Brothers-in-law Danny (Beth), Tony, Duncan, David (Nancy).
Besides her mother, Barb was predeceased by her sister Donna Smith-Hooper, her Mother-in-law Myrtle and Father-in-law Albert and sister-in-law Lorraine, paternal and maternal grandparents.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at T.J. Tracey’s Funeral Home, 370 Reserve Street, Glace Bay, from 1-2 p.m., on Friday June 9, 2023, followed by a Memorial Service at 2 p.m.
Rest easy and know we will love you until we meet again!
