Obituary of Terrance John Thomas

Please share a memory of Terrance to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Thomas, John Terrance (Terry) of Terence Bay – 88 years old. It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our Dad on May 22, 2023. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late Amos and Alice Thomas (Jollimore). He is survived by his daughters, Susan (Tyrone Oickle), Denise (David Logan), Pattie Slaunwhite and Terri Lynn (Sam Fancy); grandchildren, Sarah, Lindsay, Trevor, Taylor, Josh and Brittany; great-grandchildren, Payton, Riley, Evelyn, Wyatt and Blair; brothers; Wayne (Mary) and Paul (Debbie). As well as his parents, Dad was predeceased by his wife, Lorna Alice Thomas (Drew); brothers, Murray, Bruce, Ross, Laurie, William (Bill); and son-in-law, Todd Slaunwhite. Dad’s greatest pride was his four daughters and their families. Dad was very loving and cared for his family which was shown through his daily visits. He would be especially excited when there was a family dinner, a birthday or holiday. His caring nature extended to his family pets and to his hobby of feeding the many stray cats in the neighbourhood. Dad was a professional Truck Driver for over 70 years. He was very fortunate to work accident free with many fuel companies; Texaco, Ultramar, IMP and in his later years, he worked with Dow & Duggan Log Homes. His love for driving and the natural “gift of gab” fostered great friendships far and wide. He knew someone wherever he went. Dad was well known for his daily drives through the community, stopping to say hello to neighbours and friends. Dad loved camping for over 65 years with his family and friends. His happiest memories were at the Sherwood Forest Campground, where he was known as the Pied Piper and Robin Hood. His many musical talents were welcomed around campfires. Our Christmas Eve gatherings, were a favourite family tradition, where Dad loved to play his accordion with family and friends, who joined in with guitars. Dad’s motto was “the more the merrier”! Our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the staff at the Hatchet Lake Medical Center and Dr. Harris Crooks (family doctor) for their many years of care. We also thank the employees of Continuing Care and Closing the Gap for their compassion and care over the past years. Arrangements have been entrusted to T. J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, Halifax. There will be no visitation. A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, 180 Sandy Cove Rd. in Terence Bay, on Monday, May 29, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Katie Taylor-Flynn officiating. Reception to follow at the Terence Bay Community Hall. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the SPCA or St. Paul’s Anglican Church. Dad, Grandad, Poppy, there are no words to describe how much we will truly miss you. You will forever be remembered for your love of music, laughter and kindness. Mom finally has her driving buddy back. In honour of Dad, please pay it forward by reaching out to an old friend or helping someone in need. That’s what Dad would do.
