Please share a memory of Mildred to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with the deepest sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and best friend on March 23, 2023 at Melville Gardens nursing Home in Halifax at the age of 84. Mildred is survived by her two loving sons Kevin Michael Fleming and Craig Murray Fleming, who will both miss her dearly and whom she loved with all her heart and were her pride and joy! She was pre deceased by her loving husband, James Joseph Fleming whom she loved and was devoted to; her father, Wilfred Henry Onyett; and mother, Mary Esther Onyett(Conway); her sister, Belva Ann Raymond(Onyett); her brothers, William "Bill" Onyett and Montague Henry Onyett. Millie was born and grew up in Halifax Nova Scotia, she attended St. Patrick's high school which was where her and dad first met as high school sweethearts. After High school she attended the Halifax vocational school and took the secretarial course and her working career was as a secretary/administrative assistant for a few different companies early in her career, however her main occupation was with CIP Victoria, which later changed their name to Price Daxion and Unisource based in Halifax/Dartmouth where she worked for many years until she retired. Mildred was the type of person that loved her family immensely and would do anything for them. She was a very sociable person and enjoyed singing and was involved with the Chebucto Community singers’ choir from 1979 until 2020 that she enjoyed going to practice and socializing with friends there every Tuesday evening and performing in concerts they had on Valentines Day and at Christmas. She also enjoyed round and square dancing very much with her husband James for many years and was also involved with the Red Hat society women’s social group for several years as well. Millie and her husband both enjoyed going to the Halifax Casino occasionally on the weekend to try their luck at the slot machines which she managed to win big on two occasions. It was a fun outing for them to enjoy together. She also loved spending time with her family and was very devoted to them and liked going out to supper on Friday evenings and for Sunday drives together and just spending any quality time she could with them. Her and dad also enjoyed watching game shows and soap operas in the evenings and figure skating competitions. She had a knack for being a very good quick speller and liked doing the lexicons in the newspaper each week. On different occasions she also enjoyed going on leisurely getaways with her niece Cathy in which they had a lot of laughs and fond memories together. She will be missed dearly by her sons Craig and Kevin and by everyone who was fortunate enough to know her. Cremation has taken place, and as per her wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service.
